Army Opens Fire as Pakistani Drone Violates Airspace in J&K’s Poonch

POONCH (Mar 1, 2026) — Indian Army troops opened fire early Sunday morning after a Pakistani drone crossed the Line of Control (LoC) into the Digwar area of Jammu and Kashmir.

Incident at the LoC

The breach occurred at approximately 6:10 AM, marking the second such provocation in the sector within the last three days.

  • The Response: Alert troops manning a forward post detected the drone and fired over a dozen rounds to bring it down.
  • The Retreat: The drone managed to evade the gunfire and retreated into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) after hovering briefly over Indian territory.
  • Search Operations: Officials have launched a massive combing operation in the area to ensure no weapons, explosives, or narcotics were airdropped during the incursion.

Rising Border Tension

This incident follows a similar drone sighting on February 27, where troops also engaged an aerial intruder in the same sector. The Army has intensified its vigil along the LoC, noting an increase in the use of low-cost drones for cross-border smuggling and surveillance.

The situation in the Poonch district remains high-alert as security forces continue to monitor for further aerial violations.
