ECIL Secures Massive ₹1,599 Crore Order for Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant Units 5 & 6

HYDERABAD – Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), a Mini Ratna CPSE under the Department of Atomic Energy, has reached a significant milestone in India’s nuclear energy roadmap. The corporation has bagged a prestigious order worth ₹1,599.38 crore from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL).

Strategic Control and Instrumentation Package

The contract involves the comprehensive Control and Instrumentation (C&I) Package for Units 5 and 6 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) in Tamil Nadu. ECIL secured the order through a strategic consortium with Mumbai-based M/s TEMA India Private Limited.

The C&I system is often described as the "brain and nervous system" of a nuclear reactor, responsible for monitoring, controlling, and ensuring the safety of all plant operations. This order underscores ECIL’s dominant position in providing indigenous high-tech electronics for the nation’s strategic nuclear sector.

A Commitment to Energy Security

This achievement follows ECIL’s recent success at the SCOPE Eminence Awards 2025, where the organization was honored by the President of India for its contributions to the nation’s strategic interests.

Shri Anurag Kumar, Chairman & Managing Director of ECIL, emphasized the long-term vision behind the project:

“This order is a testament to ECIL’s technical prowess and its enduring partnership with NPCIL. As India targets 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047, ECIL remains committed to providing world-class indigenous solutions to ensure the nation’s energy security.”

The Kudankulam project, being developed with Russian technical assistance, is a key component of India’s push for a low-carbon energy future. By providing homegrown instrumentation, ECIL continues to play a critical role in the "Atmanirbhar Bharat" initiative within the high-stakes nuclear energy domain.
