SECL Becomes Only Coal India Unit to Post All-Round Growth in FY26

NEW DELHI – South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has emerged as the standout performer for Coal India Limited in the 2025-26 fiscal year, becoming the only subsidiary to register positive growth across all three key operational metrics: production, offtake, and overburden removal (OBR).

FY26 Performance Highlights:

  • Coal Production: Rose by 5.26% to reach 176.2 million tonnes (MT), up from 167.4 MT in the previous year.
  • Coal Offtake: Increased by 4.6% to 178.6 MT, reflecting steady supply amidst rising national energy demand.
  • Record Mining Activity: Achieved its highest-ever OBR of 364.3 million cubic metres, a critical indicator of future mining readiness.

Strategic Diversification

Beyond traditional mining, SECL reported significant progress in future-ready energy sectors:

  • Clean Energy: Advancing projects in coal gasification and ultra-supercritical thermal power.
  • Resource Extraction: New initiatives in critical minerals exploration and rare earth extraction.
  • Sustainability: Developing hydro-based energy solutions and coal washeries to align with India's evolving energy security needs.

CMD Harish Duhan credited the "outstanding contribution" of the workforce for overcoming geographical and operational challenges to hit these milestones, emphasizing the subsidiary's pivotal role in the nation's energy stability for the 2026-27 period.
